Key Stats: DH Brett Sullivan 1-for-4, HR (9); SS Mason McCoy 2-for-3, 2 2B, BB; LHP Miguel Cienfuegos 4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 3 K, 4 BB; LHP Tom Cosgrove 1.1 IP, 2 K; RHP Alek Jacob IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 K

Prospect Watch: The hosts put up four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back as El Paso became the first club all season to drop a series to the Isotopes. After a rough start from Miguel Cienfuegos, who jumped directly from High-A to help a depleted rotation earlier this month, Tom Cosgrove turned in his strongest outing yet this year. The lefty, who was sent down after struggling mightily in the big league bullpen in April, entered with a runner on second and two outs and induced a first-pitch grounder to get out of the inning. He then came back and struck out a pair in the fifth as he worked more than an inning for the first time in nearly a month. He has now allowed just one hit and an unearned run over his last nine innings of work with a 9:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Sunday, he tossed 12 strikes on 14 pitches, getting four whiffs. While he’s had to re-work his sweeper, which continues to have more vertical movement and less horizontal break than he showed last year, the 28-year-old is pitching his way back into another opportunity with the big league club. … Brett Sullivan connected on his ninth homer of the year to account for two of El Paso’s runs. The 30-year-old backstop is on pace to blow past his previous career high of 13, which he set in Low-A all the way back in 2016.

Missions 8, Corpus Christi Hooks 3

Key Stats: 1B Robbie Tenerowicz 4-for-4, BB; SS Ray-Patrick Didder 2-for-5, 2B, 3B, E (8); 2B Connor Hollis 3-for-4, BB; RHP Victor Lizarraga 6 IP, 4 H, ER, 10 K, BB; RHP Ethan Routzahn IP, K, BB; RHP Cole Paplham IP, K

Prospect Watch: A day after getting no-hit, the Missions had one of their most productive games at the plate of the season, putting together 16 hits. Robbie Tenerowicz led the charge with four singles and a walk, pushing his average over his last 12 games to .372. The 29-year-old from the Bay Area now has his line for the Missions back almost to where it was in the first month of the season when he was with the Mariners’ Texas League affiliate. He signed with the Padres just a few days after the Mariners released him to bolster a depleted San Antonio roster. … While the offense put things together, starter Victor Lizarraga turned in one of the best starts of his career. The 20-year-old twirled six innings of one-run ball while striking out a career-high 10 batters and issuing just one walk. After battling illnesses through stretches of last season, the San Diego native seems to be finding his rhythm a bit more this year. He has a 3.46 ERA while striking out a batter per inning and holding Texas League hitters to a .219 average through his first 11 starts. … Cole Paplham closed out the victory with his second scoreless inning of work since coming off the IL at the start of the series. The 24-year-old Wisconsin native missed most of the first two months of the season with a sore arm, but when he’s healthy, he pairs an upper-90s fastball with a nasty slider.

TinCaps 7, Lake County Captains 5 (10 innings)

Key Stats: CF Homer Bush Jr. 2-for-5, 2B; SS Jay Beshears 2-for-5, 2B; DH Ethan Salas 2-for-5; C Anthony Vilar 2-for-5, HR (4); RHP Braden Nett IP, 2 H, 3 ER, K, BB; RHP Will Geerdes 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K; LHP Ryan Och 2 IP, K; RHP Tyler Morgan 3 IP, 2 H, BB

Prospect Watch: After falling behind 5-0 early, the TinCaps rallied to force the game to extra innings and then pushed across two runs in the 10th to claim the victory and avoid a third straight walk-off loss. Each of the top four hitters in the lineup had a pair of hits to carry Fort Wayne. Ethan Salas had gone 15 games without a multi-hit effort until Saturday night, when he had a pair of singles. Back in the lineup as the DH Sunday afternoon, he again had two knocks and drove in a run. He was mired in a 7-for-51 slump heading into the weekend. … Fellow backstop Anthony Vilar, who subscribers had a chance to read up on earlier in the week, had the biggest hit of the game, a two-run homer in the eighth inning to pull the TinCaps within one. The 25-year-old University of Miami product started the year with a brutal 1-for-20 April, but has been a solid contributor since while showing off his unique versatility by playing first and second base as well as providing stellar work behind the plate. … After spending all of May on the injured list, Braden Nett has been working back very slowly. The 21-year-old, who was on watch lists heading into the year after his showing in last year’s Arizona Fall League, again threw just one inning. He labored through the outing, giving up three runs on a pair of hits and a walk. … The TinCaps bullpen put together a strong showing to give the offense the chance to rally. Lefty Ryan Och and righties Tyler Morgan and Dwayne Matos combined to allow just two singles over the final six innings. Morgan, the Padres’ 14th-round pick out of tiny Abilene Christian University last year, has given up one run on only five hits over his last 14 innings of work.

Storm 7, Stockton Ports 2

Key Stats: 3B Wyatt Hoffman 3-for-3, HR (2), BB; LF Jacob Campbell 1-for-4, HR (3); C J.D. Gonzalez 2-for-3, BB; 2B Chase Valentine 1-for-3, HR (2), BB; CF Nick Vogt 1-for-4, HR (2); RHP Isaiah Lowe 6 IP, 2 H, 6 K, BB; RHP Xavier Ruiz IP, K

Prospect Watch: Isaiah Lowe turned in his third consecutive stellar appearance, tossing six shutout innings on only two hits while striking out six. The 21-year-old righty has surrendered just two earned runs across 18.2 innings while posting a 22:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his last three outings. On the year, opponents are hitting just .213 against him and he’s allowed more than one earned run in only three of his 11 appearances. After piggy-backing with Ian Koenig the last two times out, the 2022 draftee shifted back a day to make a start this time through the rotation. … While Storm pitching blanked the Ports until the eighth inning, the offense broke out with four homers to run away with this one. Chase Valentine and Wyatt Hoffman went back-to-back in the sixth inning as each collected their second blast of the year. Hoffman had a career day going 3-for-3 with a walk out of the leadoff spot. The 25-year-old utility player now has a .686 OPS on the year, more than 150 points higher than his line over his first two seasons in the organization. … Catcher J.D. Gonzalez had a pair of hits and drew a walk as he continues to heat up at the plate. After being in the lineup almost every day when he initially joined the club from extended spring training, the 18-year-old has gotten at least two games off in each of the last six series, and he’s responding well. The Puerto Rico native, who missed the entirety of his senior year in high school before the Padres drafted him in the third round last year, is 10-for-33 over his last 10 games and has seven walks against only six strikeouts in that stretch. He struck out at more than a 40% clip through his first month with the Storm.
